50th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

Richard Gere, photo: Film Servis Festival Karlovy VaryRichard Gere, photo: Film Servis Festival Karlovy Vary The 50th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will open with the screening of the 2014 American drama Time out of Mind, starring Richard Gere who will present the film alongside director Oren Moverman and co-star Jena Malone. Richard Gere is to receive the highest honour of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema. The Festival President’s Award will go to the legendary Czech actress Iva Janžurová.

Among this year’s other VIP guests are the American actor Harvey Keitel and Irish actor Jamie Dornan. Harvey Keitel received the festival’s Crystal Globe Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema in 2004. At this year’s festival he will present Paolo Sorrentino’s latest film Youth (La Giovinnezza), in which he stars alongside Michael Caine. 50 Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan and director Sean Ellis will unveil their plans for the World War II drama Anthropoid, based on the true story of two Czechoslovak paratroopers sent to assassinate Reich Protector Heydrich in 1942. Filming is due to begin later this month.

The 50th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will screen some 200 films, among them seven world and six international premieres. Two new Czech movies to be shown are Home Care (Domácí péče) and The Snake Brothers (Kobry a užovky).

The festival will close with the romantic comedy Sleeping with Other People, presented by director Leslye Headland.
