Kateřina Valachová tipped to become new education minister

A frontrunner to become the next minister of education has emerged in the form of the current deputy minister for legislation and human rights, Kateřina Valachová, according to several sources close to prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka given as sources by the Czech News Agency. Sobotka is said to want to put a woman in the post. Hitherto, the favourite to replace outgoing minister Marcel Chládek appeared to be the vice-rector of Charles University, Stanislav Štech. The prime minister’s office says it will not comment until after a meeting between Sobotka and the head of state, Miloš Zeman, on Friday. At the moment there is only one woman in the Cabinet appointed by the Social Democrats.
