Police arrest accomplice of young Czech apprehended with heroin in Lahore

Police in Lahore, Pakistan, say they have apprehended an accomplice of the 21-year-old Czech woman who was arrested at Lahore airport for smuggling nine kilograms of heroin in her luggage.

According to Samaa TV the arrest was made during a raid in Lahore on the basis of information provided by the Czech national during interrogation. The suspect told interrogators that another man was also involved. Raids are being conducted to apprehend the third suspect who is still at large.

The young Czech, identified as Tereza Hluskova, could face a tough sentence for drugs smuggling. She claims she had no idea the parcel she was asked to take out of the country contained drugs.

Social Democrat “faction for change” meets in Tabor

Social Democrat members critical of the party’s leadership met in Tabor on Saturday to debate the situation within the party in the wake of its election debacle in the last general elections and propose changes.

Close to 200 members have joined a new platform to "save the party" established by former regional governors Jiri Zimola and Michal Hasek. They are pushing for greater democracy in decision-making, arguing that all party members should elect a new leader at the party’s election conference in February and saying that all members should decide on whether the Social Democrats should join or support the new government.

S&P affirms AA-rating for Czech Republic

The rating agency Standard & Poor’s has affirmed the Czech Republic’s AA- long-term foreign currency sovereign credit rating. The outlook remains stable.

The sovereign credit rating evaluates a country's creditworthiness and its future ability to pay its obligations. It also serves as a measure of the country’s economic development and its institutional and political stability.

Kroměříž chateau to appear on new National Geographic app

National Geographic Society is preparing to launch a new app promoting historical sites on UNESCO’s list of cultural monuments. Among the royal residences on the list are the palace at Versailles, the royal Spanish palace at Aranjuez and Kroměříž chateau in Moravia where parts of Forman’s 1984 Oscar-winning film Amadeus were shot. The new app is to be launched in London at the end of January.

Samkova wins SBX World Cup race

2014 Olympic champion Eva Samkova began her dress rehearsal ahead of the 2018 Olympic Games by winning the world cup snowboard title in Eryurum, Turkey. Her second title in succession in the SBX World Cup race suggests she is back in top form after a shoulder injury suffered in Val Thorens back in December 2017. It is the eighth title in her career.

Plíšková beats Šafářová at Australian Open

Sixth seed Karolina Plíšková beat fellow Czech Fed Cup team mate Lucie Šafářová 7-6(6) 7-5 to move into the fourth round of the Australian Open on Saturday.

It’s tough to play another Czech player especially as we are Fed Cup team mates, but it was a good match and I served well” Plíšková told jornalists after the game.

Another Czech could be waiting in the fourth round if Barbora Strýcová gets the better of Bernarda Pera later on Saturday.
